American Style Banana Protein Pancakes

Protein pancakes make the perfect post-work out snack (to help with muscle recovery) and when eaten for breakfast could help with weight loss; this is because protein makes you feel fuller for longer meaning less temptation to snack mid-morning (and so reduced calorie intake over the whole day).

 

These healthy pancakes taste delicious with PB2, yoghurt, banana, or honey.. the topping choices are endless!

 

I used MyProtein Whey powder in the recipe below but if you want a plant-based protein powder check out my Sativa Protein Review.

 

If you don’t have protein powder you can swap it for milk powder (see below) or check out my Greek Yoghurt Healthy Pancake Recipe which is naturally high in protein without the whey!

 

American Style Protein Pancakes

Ingredients

  • 20g (1/4 cup) oats*
  • 1/2 mashed banana
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 scoop (~25g) vanilla protein powder**
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of water/milk***

Instructions

  • Mix together the banana, oats, protein powder, egg white, cinnamon and water to make a paste (use a fork)
  • Spray a non-stick pan with 1 cal oil (or use a teaspoon of coconut oil) and pour 1/3 of the mixture into the pan
  • Fry on each side for 2 minutes or until cooked & repeat for the remaining 2 pancakes!
  • Serve with Greek yoghurt, agave nectar and chopped banana (my choice)

Notes

*To make this recipe Gluten-Free use gluten-free oats

**Whey protein powder can be replaced with skimmed milk powder (plus 1/2-1 tsp of vanilla/cocoa/stevia  for flavour)

***Add more water/milk to your mix for a lighter pancake (or you could even add 1/2 tsp baking powder!)

    I’ve tried a lot of different protein pancake recipes in my quest to find one that really tastes like the old fashioned ones I love. These ones are the first ones that both myself and my husband really like. Not too many ingredients and the texture is really lovely, served with a blob of greek yogurt on each drizzled with honey and served with raspberries and blueberries they are a great way to start the day. Thank you for a quick, easy and very tasty recipe 🙂

    These pancakes are a great way to start the day. Not only are they healthy but they taste great too. And even better my husband loves them. We serve them topped with Greek yogurt, raspberries, banana and honey. Beautiful :0)

    Woke up feeling very rough this morning after a terrible nights sleep so instead of my usual, I decided to try this out to perk me up a bit and it totally did!! Only problem i had was burning one a little as i didn’t realise how quick they cook!! However, the banana and cinnamon tastes amazing together and it was so quick to make. i topped mine with some raspberries, gorgeous! Thanks Nic!! xx

    I have been looking for an alternative to my normal ommlette / oats breakfast, so decided to give this recipe a try. Although on my first attempt I added too much liquid which made for one massive pancake, it still tasted delicious! This is now going to be a regular breakfast and post work out snack.     Just made these – delicious. Don’t have any protein powder so used health mix which has goji berries and chia in. Topped with some cheeky dark chocolate and left over banana. Will definitely make again when my protein powder comes!

    Nic, are you sure the nutritional information is correct as a single 25g scoop of MyProtein powder is nearly 20g by itself. The info says 9g per serving. I might be completely wrong.

    I made these this morning! I’ve been trying to find the perfect protein pancakes recipe and I think I found it! Word of advice: don’t skip the banana, I think it really helps with the pancakes solidifying!! Thanks Nic, they’re delicious!!

    Sorry but what do we do with the oats? Do they go in the mix or have separately? Might just be being blonde but can’t see them in the instructions part!

    I made these last night as a pre gym snack. I couldn’t believe a) how easy they were and b) how delicious they were. I loved that I had all the ingredients in my cupboard, and so they didnt cost me anything extra to make. I had them this the other half of the banana, and a drizzle of honey. Will definatley be having these again, either as breakfast, a snack or as a pudding. Delicious 🙂

    Another great recipe, I doubled the quantity to save some for later as a snack.
    I then mixed it up by adding different ingredients to each one. Raisons&coconut. Blueberries. Chopped nuts and then ate them with total Greek yoghurt

    Really like this recipe. But we found that, sometimes could be dry. So, we tried different tips (take out the banana, put more protein). We noticed (without banana) that if we soak the oats 15/ 20 mins before cooking (we put more to change it instead the banana)in to water/soy milk it is softer and to become dry takes more time than the original recipe. Served with honey, blueberries and orange it is really nice!

    Thanks for this! I’ve been looking for a simple oat pancake recipe. I only had berry-flavored protein powder, but it went very well with the banana and the berry sauce I served it with! And the perfect size for breakfast or a snack for a person living alone 🙂

    I’ve tried a few protein pancakes before but these are by far the best tasting and amazing fuel for my marathon training. They’ve got everything in there for a yummy, healthy, macro hitting breakfast or snack. I made my Choco-banana-nut with chocolate protein and almond butter and greek yogurt sauce. Yum yum!

          Yes it would be more like my Greek style pancakes – I prefer whole egg but this recipe called for more protein and less fat 🙂

      You have to crush it up to a powder – to make sure that there are no sharp pieces left! You can use a coffee grinder 🙂

    these pancackes tasted awesome, i used chocolate protein powder and they were very good. When i was cooking them the outside seemed to be done cooking but the inside looked like it was not cooked. They tasted alright but is that supposed to happen? Thanks for the recipe

    Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! I love to have protein pancakes topped with Greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast before I go to the gym. They’re very filling and give me plenty of energy throughout the day. The pancakes are so tasty that they are to die for! X

    Hi Nic, I do love making those protein pancakes for breakfast before I go to the gym but I was just wondering if I can still eat these on my rest days. I do weight training 3 days a week, cardio 1 day a week and I have 3 rest days. Could I still eat them on my cardio or rest days? Xx
