Cleansing Cucumber Limeade

Cleansing Cucumber Limeade

Being a ‘Yorkshire Lass’ I’m lucky to have pretty decent tap water but this recipe Cucumber Limeade makes water taste SO much better!

This drink is super hydrating and is perfect for summer or on those mornings when you need a refreshing ‘pick me up’ … for whatever reason 😉 It’s also MUCH healthier than fizzy pop.

Cucumber Limeade

Cucumber Limeade

Ingredients

  • 350ml water*
  • 1 cucumber
  • 30g (2 tbsp) xylitol**
  • 1 lime
  • 1/8 tsp salt***
  • 14 ice-cubes (a large handful!)

Instructions

  1. Peel the cucumber & remove any seeds before slicing into pieces (English cucumbers don't tend to have seeds!)
  2. Add the pieces of cucumber, water, sugar/xylitol, salt & the juice of the lime to a blender along with half of the ice-cubes
  3. Blend!
  4. Pour over the remaining ice-cubes in two glasses & serve immediately (if the drink starts to separate just give it a good mix with a spoon!)

Notes

*Can be filtered if necessary, I’ve seen water filters for sale in supermarkets as well as online from Amazon!

**Xylitol is a 100% natural sugar alternative that has fewer calories than sugar and is kind to teeth too!

***I use celtic sea salt because of it’s superior taste & mineral content in comparison to regular table salt.

I’m going to use this recipe for my party on Friday as a soft drink and a mixer (whilst drinking responsibly). Living in London, we love our BRITA filter and can really taste the difference. * X

Oooh I can’t wait to see a pic Liza!! Be sure to have some cocktail stirrers on hand too – enjoy your responsible drinking.. whilst being super healthy at the same time!! x

I love my Brita filter, it’s made a huge difference in how much water I drink even though I agree that in Yorkshire our water is pretty good.

This recipe sounds delish! Will have to try!

Yes I agree! If you don’t have one of those American fridges with the pre-cooled water then this is definitely the way forward!! I love this drink- it feels like you’re drinking pure goodness!! I’ve just seen your Brita recipe too – LOVE IT!! xx

That looks so refreshing, Nic. I totally agree that it would make a great mixer, not that I’m advocating drinking either 🙂

Te he .. 😉 My pregnant friend just text me actually to say she is living off my healthy drink recipes and loves this one – she must have one healthy baby. I’m drinking one as I type – it’s so filling!! Nic xx

I tried the recipe this morning after an evening out with friends and it was super refreshing. I’ll definitely keep this recipe in mind, and I already know now what I’ll drink the morning after the back to school party next week. I have to get up early the next day so I think it’s great to kick off the day… 🙂

I slightly changed the recipe (well, I never stick 100% to recipes anyways 😉 ). I used lemon juice which I still had in the fridge and stevia…

When i read this i thought eww cucumber drink?! But i thought I’d give it a go seeing as all the ingredients as things that u have around the house anyway. So i reluctantly made it and couldn’t believe how nice and refreshing it was! Its quick and easy to make and would go down a treat in the summer! I’d defferently be making this again and again. Yummy! I might put more lime in it next though for more of a zest

Hurray! Lol you thought the exact same as me then 🙂 So glad you liked it! And I like your lime suggestion too 🙂 Thank you so much! Nic x

I tweaked this by leaving the skin on the cucumber (lazy), cutting out the sugar. I used fizzy mineral water instead of filtered water, although didn’t put it into the blender for obvious reasons! I love this drink, it’s keeping me sane during a booze-free January.

I love your tweaks Claire! Thank you so much for taking the time to share them! Nic xx

When I saw this recipe, I remembered a bizarrely delicious cucumber drink I was offered after a trek in India some years ago. And so nostalgically driven I went and made your Cucumber drink and mine (cucumber, lemon, cardamom, ginger to taste, sugar and water) and had a cucumberade taste challenge with all people present in my house. We had a laugh and both are great tasting and refreshing drinks. We couldn’t decide which was best so it ended up in a draw! Love your food and drinks inspiration Nic, will be keeping an eye on what you come up with next. Lorraine

First recipe of yours I’ve tried. I added mint for a bit of a mojito feel, and it worked a treat! Lovely stuff!

Ooh that sounds gorgeous! Thanks for the comment Graeme 🙂 x
