Healthy Banana Protein Bar Recipe

These banana protein bars taste amazing and are super easy to make (check out the video above!). They make the perfect pre or post work-out snack, or for just in-between meals! You can even freeze them too.

Banana Protein Bars

Ingredients

  • 80g (1 cup) oats*
  • 90g (~3 scoops) protein or meal replacement powder**
  • 70g (1/4 cup) fat-free cream cheese
  • 55g (1/2 cup) skimmed milk powder
  • 2 egg whites
  • 60ml (4 tbsp) water
  • 1.5 mashed bananas
  • 2 tsp rapeseed (vegetable) oil

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 165 degrees C / 325 degrees F
  2. Mix together the dry ingredients: oats, protein powder and milk powder
  3. In a separate bowl whisk together the cream cheese, egg whites, water, bananas and oil
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients
  5. Pour into a greased 8" by 8" or 9" by 9" baking tray (or line with baking paper)
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until cooked (a tooth-pick should come out clean)
  7. Allow to completely cool before slicing into 9 pieces.. wrap each bar in cling film or foil

Notes

*To make this recipe gluten free use gluten free oats.

**Nutrient values may vary depending on the protein powder used. I used a meal replacement protein powder which has more carbs and less protein than regular whey protein; if regular whey protein is used then the nutrient values will be: 128 calories, 14g carbs, 12g protein, 3g fat per bar.

    Hi Nic,

    I made the bars and they were fab although i added skimmed milk instead of skimmed milk powder – where does one get this – is it in the Health food shops ? ( Im in Dublin so i tried Tesco) the texture was really moist! Is the right? Very quick and easy to make! Thank you!

      Hey! The texture was probably moist because of the milk – but if it tasted good and held together then great! You can get skimmed milk powder from any supermarket.. one of the most well known brands is marvel but you can get own brand! Let me know if you find it 🙂 x

    i like to grate and sqeeze 1 orange into my protein bread, find i dont need to add any sweetner at all.

    Hi there really keen to try these, just wondering if it would work with quest chocolate protein powder as thats what I have a huge tub off. Also if I wanted to swap the oil for coconut oil would that work?

    Hi Nic, can I ask why skimmed milk powder specifically? What is it replacing in a regular recipe? (Sorry if a silly question!)
