Ants on a log is a classic healthy snack and is perfect for kids and adults alike.. in my opinion it is the only enjoyable way of enjoying celery(!).
Celery contains just 3 calories per stick and contains vitamins A, C and K as well as the mineral folate. It is also high in both water and fibre which will help to keep you both hydrated and feeling fuller for longer!
For me, the perfect healthy snack is this:
- PROTEIN + FIBRE = 😀
This recipes combines both of those.. we have peanut butter (or PPB) and quark/cream cheese for the protein and celery plus raisins for the fibre. We’ve also got some natural sweetness from the honey, which is just for taste!
P.S. I didn’t invent this recipe.. far from it as (I think) this recipe originates from as far back as the 1940’s when Girl Scouts described “Ants on a log” as a “salad concoction of celery stuffed with cheese topped with raisin” .. you learn something every day 😉 Do let me know if you give these a go!
[ingredients]
*or swap for 2 tbsp powdered peanut butter mixed with milk or water.
[method]Calorie stats provided are based on the recipe as shown i.e. 3 celery sticks filled with all 3 fillings & topped with raisins.
