As you’ll know by now (if you read my blog regularly!), I’m a massive fan of green tea and get super excited about any new products that are to do with it.. which is why I’m introducing you all to Tg.. the makers of beautiful loose leaf pyramid green tea bags and healthy iced-green tea drinks.
To give you a bit of a background (in case you didn’t already know), green tea:
- Is picked and then dried but not fermented like black tea which helps to preserve the antioxidants.
- Has a lower caffeine level in comparison to black tea or coffee.
- Is a delicious, low calorie way to stay hydrated throughout the day!
So what have Tg created? Read on to find out! 🙂
- Iced Tg Green Teas
Now I’ll be honest, I was a little sceptical when Drink Tg got in touch and asked me to sample their range.. mainly because every bottle of iced-tea that I’ve ever picked up in the shops is loaded with sugar.. When the bottles arrived though I was pleasantly surprised.. the labels were all GREEN for calories, sugar, fat and salt!
The drinks contain real Chinese green tea and are mixed with a little sugar and stevia (a natural sweetener) to make it taste delicious but not become a sugar laden drink – each 330ml bottle contains just 30 calories and 7g sugar (less than a teaspoon). MASSIVE thumbs up for this Tg!!
The iced Tg green tea drinks, which are bottled in the UK taste delicious and are very thirst quenching. They are free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives and come in three yummy flavours; Green Tea with Ginseng, Green Tea with Mandarin & Gingseng and Green Tea with Jujube & Gingseng.
I love all three and found them to be a great alternative to a sugary drink poured over ice when you’re sitting enjoying the sun! I’ll definitly be buying them when I’m out and about (see below for stockists!).
- Hot Tg Green Teas
Drinking Green Tea started over 4,000 years ago in China and the Tg Green Tea tea bags contain organically grown preium green tea from a special plantation on the 887m high Dao Ren mountain peak. The specific growing location and tea preparation methods handed down since ancient times help to produce a green tea with a delicate taste and soft slightly fruit flavour. They honestly are delicious as usually I can’t stomach pure green tea (green tea without any flavours added) however I can quite happily drink Tg’s!
The pryramid bags are hand-packed into resealable stand up pouches which are non-transparent to keep the tea fresher for longer, and come in three varieties; Green tea, Green tea with Ginger & Lemon (I’m yet to try this one!) and Green tea with Jujube (an historic fruit) & Osmanthus (a flowering plant). The teas contain no added flavourings to keep the taste as natural as possible and are a part of the Ethical Tea Partnership, to ensure the people who pick and pack the tea are treated fairly. The Green tea is already organic and the other varieties will be converted to 100% organic soon.. big thumbs up for this!
i’ve been drinking Tg for a few weeks now and love the taste of the loose leaf with the convenience of the pyramid bags!
- About Tg
The ladies behind Tg are Dr Hua He, a Chinese born medical doctor, and Sophia Nadur, an innovator for leading consumer brands who have now successfully created Iced Teas that are the lowest in calorie and lowest in sugar anywhere in the UK – well done!! Even Action on Sugar have congratulated them on their creation. I really do wish them all the best for the future and think their brand and products are fantastic.
