Sukrin Sugar Free Cake Mix Review & Healthy Cookie Recipe!
Calorie free icing sugar?? Sugar free cake mix?? Yes you heard correctly, and you may be just as excited as I was the other week when I heard more about the Sukrin range. I’ve heard about Sukrin before, having reviewed their wheat-free bread mix, but had never actually tried the ‘sweeter side’ of their product range, until now!

- Calorie-Free Sugar Alternatives
Sukrin produce all-natural, low-carb, low-calorie alternatives to sugar which are perfect in drinks, cooking and baking. The alternatives are used just like sugar but instead of containing calories and rotting teeth, they don’t do either! The sweetness of the Sukrin products comes from erythritol (a sugar alcohol) which our bodies don’t break down (and the good news is that it doesn’t cause stomach upset) and stevia (a natural sweetener from a plant).
I’ve tried Sukrin:1 (the natural sugar alternative) as well as the Sukrin icing (to make icing sugar by adding water or buttercream icing by adding butter, vanilla & a little milk) and both are great – perfect for those of us with a sweet tooth. They also produce ‘Sukrin Gold’ – a sugar-free alternative to brown sugar, genius!
- Sugar-Free Milk Chocolate & Cake Mixes
The chocolate bars from Sukrin contain no added sugar and come it at just 170 calories for a 40g bar. The Almonds & Sea Salt flavour was delicious and my only wish now is that they would bring out a dark chocolate!
Regarding the sugar-free cake mixes (as you will see in the video) they are super versatile; you can choose to bake the whole box at once, or (like I did!) split the mix into 4 and bake it 1/4 at a time. This way your muffin cravings will be satisfied for even longer! The cake mix is free-from sugar, gluten, wheat and egg and contains sesame flour, corn flour, Surkin sweetener, fibre and pea protein. To make a cake or muffins (using 1/4 of the mix) all you need to do is add an egg, 18ml of oil (vegetable or coconut) and 50ml of water.
I had a go at baking the cake mix as muffins in the oven (top two pictures below) for 20 mins at 180 degrees C and then in a mug in a microwave for 1-2 minutes – who knew that you could turn a regular ‘oven bake cake mix’ into a microwave mug cake (bottom two pictures below)!! On that note I should probably mention that Sukrin do actually produce ‘Cake in a Cup’ mixes which I am excited to try!!
The muffins baked either way tasted great and I loved adding grated carrot as well as ginger and cinnamon to the mix, as well as grated apple for added fibre and goodness – the opportunities are endless with this product!
- High Fibre & High Protein Flours
As well as producing sugar-free alternatives, Sukrin also produce high protein flours (fat-reduced flour ground from peanuts and fine flour from raw organic fat-reduced cold-pressed almonds aka peanut flour and almond flour!) and a high fibre flour (fine flour from raw organic fat-reduced cold-pressed coconut aka coconut flour!). The flours contain 50g of protein/100g and 50g of fibre/100g respectively and can be used in baking (pancakes, bread, cakes, brownies and cookies) and smoothies as well as curries (coconut flour only!).
You can also make a low fat peanut butter dip/spread from the peanut flour when you mix a little milk or water into it – great if you’re trying to reduce your calorie intake and love peanut butter as much as I do!

I had a go at baking with the peanut flour, coconut flour and sugar-alternative and came up with these healthy cookies below.. do let me know if you make them too!
Ingredients: 1/4 cup (30g) peanut flour, 1 cup (100g) rolled oats, 2 tbsp coconut flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, pinch salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, 5 tbsp sugar alternative, 1 tbsp oil (vegetable or coconut), 1 egg, 1/3 cup (85ml) milk (or milk alternative) and 1/2 cup (a large handful) of raisins for a chewy cookie, chopped nuts for a crunchy cookies or chocolate chips for a chocolate cookie!
Method: 1) Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees C and combine the dry ingredients together (except the raisins, nuts or chocolate) before adding the wet ones and mixing well. 2) Stir in your ‘extras’ (raisins, nuts or chocolate), 3) Scoop out golf ball size amounts of the mixture, place on a baking tray lined with either baking foil or baking paper, flatten lightly with the back of a spoon and bake for 10 minutes until golden. 4) Allow to cool and enjoy!
