Healthy Turkey Burger Recipe

Looking for an alternative to a traditional beef burger? This turkey recipe is super tasty, low in calories, and has an extra protein kick thanks to the yoghurt.

You can serve these burgers in a traditional bap (granary are the lowest GI meaning they release their energy slowly) or with sweet potato wedges and salad. To make sweet potato wedges simply slice a sweet potato into wedges, spray with one calorie spray oil, add a sprinkle of your chosen herbs and bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes at 200 degrees C until soft *delicious* – sweet potatoes also count towards one of your five a day too!

I personally serve 2 of these burgers per adult and they really are so easy to make! You’ll never want to buy shop-bought again (especially if you’ve ever looked at the ingredients list of the cheaper ones!!).

To make 6 turkey burgers you will need:

Ingredients

  • 400g minced turkey breast
  • 1 diced red pepper
  • 2 diced small onion
  • 100g fat-free Greek style yoghurt
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic granules (or 2 cloves minced)
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

*Nutritional information is for 1 burger with out bap/sides

Method

Step 1

Mix together the turkey, pepper, onion, yoghurt, Worcestershire sauce and herbs/spices. Optional: Use a hand-blender or food processor to blend the ingredients together (to ensure an even distribution of the flavours)

Step 2

Make into 6 pattie shapes and place on grease proof/baking paper on a plate. Cover and chill for at least an hour (up to 24 hours, so you can make these the day before if needed)

Step 3

Spray a non-stick pan with 1 calorie spray oil and fry the burgers on both sides until cooked (~8-10 mins)

Step 4

Serve in a burger bun with salad or with sweet potato wedges and salad.

*Tip: to make the burgers cook quicker ‘pat’ them down a little once in the pan

    These are amazingly healthy and satisfying. Using a hand-held blender is key and the yogurt helps bind the turkey together. I didn’t have any Greek Yogurt, so I used 0% fat natural yogurt but this worked perfectly. I will definitely be making these again!

    Made these turkey burgers today real simple and easy to make used a blender to combined the ingredients. I did add the extra cayenne pepper made it nice and full of hotness. Even better that it makes 6 so I have froze the rest and meals already done. Will definitely be making these again. Thanks

    I tried these yesterday for a BBQ. I added fresh chillies to mine for that extra kick, they were superb. Just remember not to over cook them as my first batch were a little dry. Left overs found thereway in to my salad for lunch today – perfect!

    Tried these on Friday night for dinner, big tip is don’t panic if you use a hand blender and then think it’s all too wet – pop them in the fridge to firm back up and they’ll cook just fine! We had ours with salad and sweet potato chips and it was delicious. Personally though I think they were even better cold the next day, broken up and wrapped in a seeded wrap with salad and some red pepper houmous! Looking forward to trying the salmon fishcake recipe soon :) x

    Served these with a runner bean salad this weekend…yum! No blender for me just had to get my hands dirty to mix the ingredients. Really filling and flavoursome too, especially when you overdo the cayenne pepper. Done some more fro my lunch today infant, cheers Nic!

    These are surprisingly good. I always find turkey a bit boring but these tasted great. My boyfriend even enjoyed them. Will defiantly make again, easy to make and taste yummy. Will be making more of the recipes here :)

    I made these burgers last night, so simple throw in a blender and whiz it up! And cooked them tonight they were lovely and I have the remainder for my lunch tomorrow! I am normally a disaster in the kitchen so these were ideal for me and everyone loved them, I will definitely be making these on a regular basis. Thank you, keep up the good work :-)

    I’m a big fan of trying out new recipes and ideas, and decided yesterday to give these a go.

    They. Tasted. Amazing.

    So amazingly good that I tweeted and facebooked a picture of them WHILST I WAS STILL EATING.

    The mince I bought was 500g, not 400g, so shaped them into 8 burgers. Ate three of the with healthy salad and sweet potato chips, and put three in the freezer. The other two I cooked the same time as cooking the first three, then let them cool over night and chopped them into a salad for work today. Even reheated (reheated the burgers, not the salad. Why would I warm up salad?!) they still kept all the flavour.

    Off to look for a started recipe now. (As I’ve already tried the healthy Eton Mess one!)

    (Also, it’s a great idea that you have tabs for breakfast/lunch/dinner etc, making the recipes easy to find!)

    Looks great! I normally buy extra lean mince and add oats and carrots into the mixture. Taste great, but importantly it’s still healthy and nutritious. Love your blog – lost of useful ideas. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing everything :)
